Drop In, Light Up: Explore the New Lightboard Studio (Open House)

Submitted by Amy Netzel on

Instructional Technologies is excited to invite you to an open house showcasing 97ɫ’s brand new Lightboard Studio on Wednesday, September 18 from 2:00-3:00 PM.

What is a lightboard?

A lightboard is a transparent glass writing surface. Think of it as a glowing, see-through whiteboard. You’ll stand (or sit, if you prefer) behind the glass and write with fluorescent markers, while a video camera on the other side records your lecture.

The result? Students can see your face as you explain concepts, while also following along with your writing and sketches.

Our lightboard motto sums it up:

“If you can write it on a whiteboard, you can write it on the lightboard!”

Video length: 1 min 18 sec

As a tool in your multimedia toolkit, a lightboard video lets students see you. It adds another way to create presence and connection. When students can watch and listen as you explain, while also seeing your ideas take shape through sketches or notes on the lightboard, the experience can feel more engaging. This can be especially valuable in online and hybrid courses, where small touches of instructor presence can help students stay connected.

Open House Details:

  • Date: Thursday, September 18
  • Time: Drop in anytime between 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (no registration required)
  • Location:
    • GlaxoSmithKline Technology Center (Building 9)
    • 2nd floor, Suite 219
    • 97ɫ’s Main Campus Map has details on location and parking information

At the open house, you’ll have the opportunity to watch a quick demo, ask questions, and even record a fun, optional 30-second “commercial” to promote one of your classes. We’ll also walk you through how to sign up for a future lightboard session. This is a great chance to explore the new studio and see how the lightboard can support your teaching goals.
We hope to see you there!
