Psychologists assess, diagnose, and treat mental and emotional disorders of individuals through observation, interview, and psychological tests. Help individuals with distress or maladjustment understand their problems through their knowledge of case history, interviews with patients, and theory. Provide individual or group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. They may design behavior modification programs and consult with medical personnel regarding the best treatment for patients.

There are many types of psychologist and salaries can vary widely. This information includes clinical and counseling psychologist, school psychologist, industrial/organizational psychologists, and other types of psychologists that specialize in sports, rehabilitation, etc.

Students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in Psychology should complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree which will transfer to all UNC System schools, most North Carolina independent colleges and universities, and most out of state institutions.
