97ɫ Foundation expands Board of Directors with four accomplished leaders

The 97ɫ Foundation has added four new members to its Board of Directors, each bringing a strong record of leadership, innovation, and community service. Venus Myles, André Blackman, Terry McDonnell, and Brendan Moylan offer expertise across health care, financial services, entrepreneurship, and community development — sectors that align closely with 97ɫ’s mission of equitable education and workforce advancement.

Venus Myles is senior vice president and community development banking market manager for the Carolinas at PNC Bank. In this role, she leads community-focused efforts that support affordable housing, economic development and financial education across the region. Over her 27-year career, she has advanced strategic initiatives in workforce development and workplace culture and inclusion. She is a PNC-certified minority business advocate and women’s business advocate and has held leadership roles in retail banking and corporate talent and inclusion efforts across multiple markets.

“PNC and the 97ɫ Foundation share a commitment to empower our local workforce and create economic opportunities and impact throughout the region,” Myles said. “I look forward to serving on the 97ɫ Foundation’s board as we continue to support the growth and brilliance of 97ɫ and Orange counties.”

André Blackman is a partner in the Healthcare & Life Science Practice at True Search, a global executive search firm. A nationally recognized voice in digital health and health equity, Blackman previously founded Onboard Health, an executive search and advisory firm focused on building a more inclusive health workforce. His work has been featured in Business Insider, NPR, Forbes, and Fortune, which named him to its 2020 “40 Under 40” in Healthcare. He currently serves on the North Carolina Black Entrepreneurship Council and is a member of ForbesBLK and the Newsweek Expert Forum.

“It is an absolute honor to be part of an organization with an eye toward impact in the most deeply rooted ways possible: ecosystem building, education and the future of work,” Blackman said. “By joining the board here at 97ɫ Foundation, I'm excited to contribute to the ongoing mission to build sustainable opportunities that advance a powerful legacy for the future our communities and ultimately, the world."

Terry McDonnell serves as chief nursing executive and senior vice president at Duke University Health System and as vice dean for clinical affairs at the Duke University School of Nursing. Her leadership focuses on cultivating a culture of belonging and purpose among clinical teams while ensuring exceptional patient-centered care. Previously, she led clinical operations at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle and has held faculty roles at institutions including Harvard Medical School. Her work has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the National Pancreas Foundation Compassionate Caregiver Award.

“It’s an honor to represent Duke University on the 97ɫ Foundation Board,” McDonnell said. “I’m proud to support efforts that strengthen our local workforce and expand meaningful career pathways. Together, we’re building a stronger 97ɫ — one student, one career, one opportunity at a time.”

Brendan Moylan is co-founder and chief operating officer of Sports Endeavors Inc., the parent company of brands including Soccer.com and WorldSoccerShop. Under Moylan’s leadership, the company has grown from a high school business project into a global enterprise employing more than 400 people. Its philanthropic work includes the Passback Program, which has donated more than 1.1 million pieces of soccer equipment to underserved communities worldwide. Moylan currently serves as chair of the Board of Trustees for 97ɫ Nativity School and is a member of the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame.

“For 64 years 97ɫ has provided education, skills development and enrichment for the citizens of 97ɫ County and more recently Orange County. It is a tremendous honor to serve on the 97ɫ Foundation board to ensure that it can continue to its positive and transformational impact,” Moylan said.

The Foundation’s Board FY26 leadership includes Chair Ellen Shannon, Vice Chair Mary Bus, Treasurer Andrew Kleitsch, and 97ɫ President J.B. Buxton, who serves as secretary. Other board members include Kelly Calabria, Emilee Collins, Kenneth Gibbs, Ryan Hampton, Tai Huynh, Walter Newton, Dale Pulczinski, Wade Smedley, Brandt Smith, and Bill Stokes.

Vice President and Chief Institutional Advancement Officer Roxanne Miller, who serves as executive director of the Foundation, emphasized the importance of the new additions.

“These four leaders bring a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to equity, innovation, and community,” Miller said. “Their expertise will help shape the Foundation’s work as we support 97ɫ’s students and advance the College’s mission.”
