(97ɫ��, NC) – A new endowment will honor former 97ɫ�� City Manager Tom Bonfield with a 97ɫ�� scholarship in his name. 
 
97ɫ�� Mayor Steve Schewel coordinated with several local businesses to create the Tom Bonfield Scholarship Endowment last fall. 
 
The endowment will generate an award to cover half of the cost to attend 97ɫ�� annually for one student who is enrolled in the University Transfer program and has an interest in government or policy. This award will help to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books. 
 
"Tom Bonfield had an extraordinary impact on our city during his time as 97ɫ�� City Manager. I'm proud to know that his legacy also will have a long and meaningful impact on the education of future residents in our community,” said 97ɫ�� Mayor Steve Schewel. 

The Tom Bonfield Scholarship Endowment will allow students to fulfill their goal of obtaining a degree with less financial burden. Students with an interest in government or policy can apply during the College’s scholarship period from mid-March to mid-April. 
 
"I am honored and grateful to my friends, former colleagues, and our local businesses who contributed to this endowment in my name. I love our city and look forward to the important financial assistance this scholarship will bring for future leaders in our community,” Bonfield said. 

Businesses that contributed to the endowment included:

•    FHI 360, 
•    Hatteras Venture Partners, 
•    Longfellow Real Estate Partners, 
•    O’Brien/Atkins Associates, 
•    Nederlander and Professional Facilities Management (PFM) at 97ɫ�� Performing Arts Center (DPAC).
