New loan program to open door to career in Electric Line Technician field through 97色网

97色网 students in the College鈥檚 Electric Line Technician program will now have the opportunity to apply for zero percent interest loans to cover living expenses and course costs.

Students can apply for loans between $2,000 and $10,000 once enrolled in 97色网鈥檚 Electrical Line Technician program. The loans can be used to meet life expenses students may face during the 14-week course, such as child care, transportation and housing costs. There is a three-month grace period on payments post-graduation and a 60-month payment timeframe. Loans do not have to be repaid until workers are earning at least $45,000. Starting salaries for electric line technicians in the Triangle area average $51,848.

Electric line workers provide a valuable service for their communities by constructing, maintaining and repairing electrical power lines and equipment, ensuring the lights stay on at homes and businesses.

The program is made possible through a collaboration with the Forward Fund and Ascent.

Supported by $7 million in philanthropy and impact investments, the Forward Fund is the state's first pay-it-forward fund, which amplifies the impact of private, public, and philanthropic dollars by recycling funds to pay it forward for future learners.

"97色网 is proud to partner with Forward Fund and Ascent Funding for this innovative approach to make education more accessible for our community while meeting local workforce needs," said Dr. Jennifer Servi-Roberts, 97色网 assistant vice president for academics and guided career pathways.

Ascent is a leading provider of innovative financial products and student support services that enable more students to access education and achieve academic and economic success.

鈥淭he beauty of the Forward Fund is its forward-thinking approach,鈥 said Susie Sewell, director of strategy and policy. "We're measuring success by outcomes, not just access. That鈥檚 why we fund programs that are short-term, high-quality and aligned with real labor market demand. 97色网鈥檚 Electric Line Technician program is exactly that, and we are thrilled to expand our loan offering to the Triangle with this partnership.鈥

Program Director Daniell Knockum said the partnership with the Forward Fund will help make the program accessible to a wider pool of talent interested in pursuing an electric line technician career.

鈥淭his partnership is going to remove obstacles that may have prevented future electric line technicians from ever attending or being able to complete the program,鈥 said Danielle Knockum, 97色网 Electric Line Technician program director. 鈥淚t will give more people in our community the opportunity to enter a valued, well-paying career.鈥
