Tuition Costs for Curriculum Courses

The cost of tuition — which is established by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges and approved each year by the North Carolina General Assembly as part of the state budget process — are calculated based on how many credit hours a student is enrolled in during the semester.

Tuition for Legal Residents of North Carolina

Tuition for legal residents of North Carolina is $76 per credit hour or a maximum of $1,216 per semester for students enrolled in fall or spring semester, or summer term for 16 or more credit hours. Tuition is subject to change by the NC General Assembly. High school students enrolling in 97ɫ classes are exempt from tuition charges.

Tuition for Out-of-State Students

Tuition for out-of-state residents (persons who have NOT maintained domicile in the state for at least the 12 previous months) is $268 per credit hour or a maximum of $4,288 per semester for students enrolled in fall or spring semester, or summer term for 16 or more credit hours.

How to Pay Your Tuition Bill

All tuition and fees are due and payable at the Cashier's Window in the White (Building 1) lobby, during the official registration period.

  • Students may pay by cash, check, money order, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express). Partial payments or credits are not accepted.
     

  • If registering via , students can pay during registration. Students who pay this way will not receive a bill and are responsible for paying by the established deadlines.
     

  • No portion of a check made payable to 97ɫ will be given to a student except at the written request of the person making the remittance, and the written request must be mailed directly to the College’s Business Manager.

Paying Remotely for Online Courses

Students should pay for courses is using the following options:

  1. Pay with a credit card, pre-paid card, or by check through Self-Service once you have registered for classes.
  2. Set up an online Nelnet Payment Plan

If options 1 and 2 are not possible, use option 3:

  1. Mail a money order or certified check to the following address:

Special Circumstance: Some courses may be paid for by an outside agency (vocational rehabilitation, JOCCA, or WIOA) using a third-party authorization letter. Students must provide a copy of the “authorization to pay” letter from the agency along with their registration form.

Auditing a Course as a Senior Citizen

Senior citizens (age 65 years or older on the first day of the course) may audit credit or non-credit (Continuing Education) courses with the following guidelines as outlined in :

  • Tuition and Continuing Education registration fees will be waived. Students will be responsible for local fees associated with the course.
  • Auditing a course depends on the space available in the course. The auditing student cannot displace students enrolling or registering in the course to receive a grade, academic credit, continuing education unit, or certificate of completion.
  • Students must complete the audit registration within the schedule adjustment period during a term. Schedule adjustment is generally the first two days of a term.
  • Self-supporting courses are not eligible.
