Manicuring (Continuing Education)

Short Term

Manicuring is the art of caring for the hands and feet. The 300-hour course instructs students on shaping nails, removing cuticles, giving a hand or foot massage, applying artificial nails, and art work. It also involves teaching the proper health, safety and sanitation procedures to avoid common infections. Students will be able to apply their new skills by working on clients in the clinic. After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art's exam to be a licensed Manicurist.

As part of the program, students develop skills during clinic hours. View the Manicuring Salon hours, services, and scheduling information. Manicuring program students complete 100 percent of the work and offer services at a reduced rate to employees and the public.

This is a two-part course. The $1,910.50 cost of the program is broken down into two payments:

The first payment of $1,207.25 is due at the time of program registration and includes tuition, a kit, and books.
The second payment of $703.25 is due at the time of registration for the second half of the program.

This course qualifies for financial assistance.

COS-3101MA Manicurist I

Manicurist I is the first of two courses in the Manicurist program and will cover subjects such as performing a basic manicure and pedicure (including shaping nails, removing cuticles, and polishing nails), infection control, professional image, bacteriology, nail structure, and nail diseases and disorders. Completion of both courses in the program will educate students in the theoretical and practical skills, the safety precautions and measures, and the proper infection control and disinfection procedures. The proficiencies acquired will prepare the student to achieve licensure in the state of North Carolina and obtain an entry-level position in manicuring or in a related field.

Manicurist II is the second of two courses in the Manicurist program and will cover subjects such as applying artificial nails such as acrylic and gel nails, infection control, anatomy and physiology, electricity and business. Students will be able to apply their new skills by working on clients in the student salon clinic. Completion of both courses in the program will educate students in the theoretical and practical skills, the safety precautions and measures, and the proper infection control and disinfection procedures. The proficiencies acquired will prepare the student to achieve licensure in the state of North Carolina and obtain an entry-level position in manicuring or in a related field.
