This certification-related course is designed to provide training in topics mandated by a North Carolina accrediting commission or agency of state or federal government for continued certification as a criminal justice officer. Course topics must be consistent with the current law and the NC Administrative Code and may include such topics as annual in-service training for law enforcement officers, firearms training and qualification, legal update, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, juvenile minority sensitivity and ethical awareness. To update officers on new N.C.G.S. that apply to juveniles they may encounter on the job.

The NCJA Police Law Institute (PLI) is designed to provide the skills necessary to conduct enforcement activities associated with search warrants, warrantless searches, interviews, eyewitness identification, and nontestimonial identification orders. This essential training combines Emergency Vehicle Operations for bike officers with patrol procedures, tactics, night operations, scenarios, and basic bike maintenance and on-the-road repairs. Learn to ride like a pro, avoid crashes, and use your bike to foil the bad guys every time. Off-road riding and bike-specific live-fire exercises may be added at the instructor's discretion.

Course hours should be reasonable based upon the nature of the local training, but may not exceed the maximum hours.

This class is a multi-media presentation involving the use of real-life case studies, film, and television as examples to aid in the understanding of the concepts being taught. A thorough introduction or refresher on the tools available to and methods employed by investigators working proactive and long-term cases, the course emphasizes racketeering, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, theft/robbery, criminal street gangs, human trafficking, and other organized criminal enterprises.

This course will instruct students how to classify the different causes of death for children and identify the extent of investigation warranted for each, identify and interpret injuries in child abuse homicides, identify agencies involved in investigating child deaths and their respective roles, and explain the process for conducting a complete scene investigation for a child death.
